On Hardy-sobolev Embedding
1. Interpolation inequalities. A classical problem in analysis is to understand how “smoothness” controls norms that measure the “size” of functions. Maz’ya recognized in his classic text on Sobolev spaces the intrinsic importance of inequalities that would refine both Hardy’s inequality and Sobolev embedding. Dilation invariance and group symmetry play an essential role in determining sharp co...
متن کاملOn Improved Sobolev Embedding Theorems
{ We present a direct proof of some recent improved Sobolev inequalities put forward by A. in their wavelet analysis of the space BV (R 2). The argument, relying on pseudo-Poincar e inequalities, allows us to consider several extensions to manifolds and graphs. The classical Sobolev inequality indicates that for every function f on R n vanishing at innnity in some mild sense, kfk q C krfk 1 (1)...
متن کاملA critical parabolic Sobolev embedding via Littlewood-Paley decomposition
In this paper, we show a parabolic version of the Ogawa type inequality in Sobolev spaces. Our inequality provides an estimate of the L∞ norm of a function in terms of its parabolic BMO norm, with the aid of the square root of the logarithmic dependency of a higher order Sobolev norm. The proof is mainly based on the Littlewood-Paley decomposition and a characterization of parabolic BMO spaces....
متن کاملOn the characterization of the compact embedding of Sobolev spaces
For every positive regular Borel measure, possibly infinite valued, vanishing on all sets of p-capacity zero, we characterize the compactness of the embedding W (R ) ∩ L(R , μ) ↪→ L(R ) in terms of the qualitative behavior of some characteristic PDE. This question is related to the well posedness of a class of geometric inequalities involving the torsional rigidity and the spectrum of the Diric...
متن کاملSharp constants in the Sobolev embedding theorem and a derivation of the Brezis- Gallouet interpolation inequality
Sharp estimates are obtained for the constants appearing in the Sobolev embedding theorem on the two-dimensional torus. Furthermore, a version of the Brezis-Gallouet interpolation inequality is obtained with an explicit but not necessarily optimal constant in the leading term, namely, the logarithmic term. The constants are expressed in terms of the Riemann zeta-function and the Dirichlet beta-...
